Theatre productions have been the main source of entertainment in the worlds largest cities for years. Infact, some theatre shows have been captivating audiences for over 15 years and still driving lots of theatre goers. With the popularity of this type of entertainment, we will look at the most earning and longest running theatre shows in the world.

The prime theatre production that has to be mentioned is Phantom of the Opera, one of the most unbelievable theatre shows to ever be staged. This outstanding show is the longest running musical production in entertainment history and the highest earning of all time. The theatre show was adapted for the theatre by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber and details the story of a disfigured French Chap who falls in deep love with a chorus singer from the local opera house. The breathtaking songs of the theatre production are now famous and the white mask worn by the Phantom of the Opera is so unmistakable that it’s found in various fancy dress parties around the globe.

Up next is the outstanding musical show known as Cats. Again another popular theatre show and one that ran pretty much 19 years until its last showing in late 2000. Cats won both the Laurence Olivier Award and the Tony award for finest musical production and was performed in both London’s showbiz West End and Broadway New York. The theatre show was so successful that it was translated into 19 separate languages and actually shown around the globe. Cats the musical was a real groundbreaker.

Now it is time for the most famed play with a French name of all time, Les Miserable aka Les Mis or translated into English as The Miserables or The Terribles. The theatre musical has been showing in London’s West End for in excess of 15 years now and is the 2nd longest running theatre show in London’s entertainment history. One of the most memorable songs from the theatre musical is I Dreamed a Dream, and it was also sung by television talent show runner up Susan Boyle. The show Cats was up for twelve Tony awards and won eight of them, including best musical.
